On 5 December 2018 the Employment Relations Amendment Bill (“the Bill”) passed its third reading and on 11 December received Royal Assent.
The changes to the current legislation fall into two categories, those impacting on individual employee rights, and those designed to strengthen the bargaining power of the unions.
Some changes take effect immediately, with others from 6th May 2019.
All employers need to be aware of how these changes may impact on their businesses, and understand increased obligations and compliance requirements.
Our legal team will run a series of briefings across the region early in the new year to bring you up to speed with these changes, advise you of other matters being considered for change, and update you on recent case law from employment law and health and safety courts.
