LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This course will provide an introduction to the skills to run a marketing communications campaign covering social media. Topics covered include: writing media strategies, defining your target market, dealing with media, press statements and the importance of video. It is designed to assist participants so that they are better informed if contacted by media or launching a social media marketing campaign.

DESIGNED FOR

People who want to know more about social media and marketing and who have little or no knowledge at present. It is also useful for people who are in a position, or have just been promoted to a position, where they are likely to be interviewed by media.  

LEARNING CONTENT

  • Introduction to social media (what are you doing now and how can you improve this?)
  • Defining your target market (who is your target market and what platforms are they using)
  • An introduction to writing a marketing communications digital plan (outline your campaign)
  • Dealing with media (what do you do when you get asked to comment on story)
  • Proactive rather than reactive media communication (keep on top of the game)
  • Basics of writing a press release
  • The importance of video

Carmen Houlahan from Dunedin

Carmen is an experienced trainer and consultant. Her areas of expertise include marketing communication, digital strategies, public speaking techniques, disruption and how it can be good for business, and tapping into your inner potential by listening to your inner voice.

Carmen has worked with a wide variety of organisations in the media, arts sector, beauty therapy, education, start-ups and in the real estate industry.

Carmen’s knowledge over many sectors means she has stories she can tell from her personal experience. These enrich her presentations and make them more relatable to everyday problems. Carmen has a masters in entrepreneurial business and is a former president of a Toastmasters club.

Carmen is a member of Dunedin Rotary, the Institute of Directors, Otago Property Investors Association and is involved with the Otago/ Southland Māori Business Network KUMA (Te Kupeka Umaka Māori ki Araiteuru).
