LEARNING OBJECTIVE

Email has one defining quality: it’s fast. Our messages are transmitted, copied, multiplied and made public in seconds. As a result many of us feel as if we are drowning in email. Furthermore, what does everyone else consider to be good manners when it comes to email style? This half day course will help you gain control over your inbox, increase your efficiency and build your reputation as someone who is well-organised and easy to work with.

Participants will bring to the course their own emails. They will be led through a series of hands on, practical tasks and scenarios designed to build skill and confidence with email writing. Participants will apply what they learn to their own emails during the course.

  • What do readers do? - how to achieve your purpose and still meet your readers’ needs and expectations
  • How to write relevant, unambiguous subject lines that ensure your emails get opened and actioned
  • How to build accurate, reader friendly sentences every time
  • Punctuation matters - why paying attention to the small stuff matters
  • How to structure your body text for quick, accurate, trouble free reading 
  • Style do’s and don’ts - current business writing trends and what’s accepted as best practice

In 2014 Morag received a cry of help from one of Dunedin’s principle corporates. Poor writing practice was wasting time and company resources.

From here The Writer’s House, a communications consultancy dedicated to the training, mentoring and guidance of workplace writers began. Morag has now mentored and run courses for workplace writers from all spheres; from senior executives to staff that spend the majority of their day in the field. Sitting at the heart of Morag’s workshops is the understanding that successful business outcomes depend on effective, clear communication. When our text is coherent and engaging our customers, business partners and the wider communities we serve will feel respected and motivated to work with us.

With over twenty-five years' English teaching experience, Morag is an accomplished education professional.  She has held numerous, significant education positions, among them; English Head of Department, Literacy Specialist Teacher and, NZQA Marker and Moderator. She brings to her workshops a deep knowledge of the English language coupled with an extensive understanding of the best ways to foster engaged, active learning. Her lively approach coupled with plenty of laughter, builds a constructive learning environment. From here, new skill acquisition and most importantly, lasting change can take place.
