Growing a successful business comes with its share of challenges. If you’re a person with a great idea for a new venture or a small business looking to grow, OSEA can match you with a mentor to support and guide you to success.
OSEA is the Otago and Central Otago agent for Business Mentors New Zealand, a charitable trust founded to provide mentoring services to small businesses (less than 25 staff). Its mentors are all highly experienced and successful individuals with a range of business experience. If your organisation falls into the small business category and you need help to grow or solve a specific challenge a Business Mentor may well assist you.
The needs of start-up ventures are different from those of established businesses. Through our partnership with Business Mentors New Zealand we also offer a purpose-designed Start-up Business Mentoring Programme. It provides six months of accelerated mentoring for people who have a new business idea or are looking for help in starting a new business.
In addition to our key relationship with Business Mentors New Zealand OSEA works with Callaghan Innovation to administer research and development grants, particularly in the area of high-tech innovation or research and development. We also provide advice for NZTE capability development vouchers.
“It’s all about the business. We’re there to do whatever we can to assist,
make suggestions, talk through issues, and look at options.” - Michael Ferrari, business mentor
TechWeek - Learner capability and employability project
We have a presentation to employers in Dunedin about the capabilities they've told us they want graduates to have on starting employment, and how technology (an e-portfolio) can help employers have confidence that job applicants actually have the soft skills, or capabilities, that they claim, and also capture ongoing learning by employees.
