Virginia webWe recently hosted Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Grant Robertson at our post-Budget briefing in Dunedin.  You can read more in the ODT here.  A few days later, Grant Robertson provided a briefing in Invercargill.  You can read more about this here in Stuff.  The Minister’s presentation reviewed the economic and fiscal outlook and Budget investments, and it is available to view here.

Find out more about the Budget 2021 in this video from Kirk Hope, the Chief Executive of BusinessNZ, including the proposed social unemployment insurance, Covid-19 vaccines, tourism, immigration and fair pay agreements.

We remain concerned with the increasing costs that employers are facing and are continuing to raise this with the Government.  Among these extra costs are changes to the Holidays Act, which will be amended to increase employees’ yearly sick-leave entitlement from 5 to 10 days from 24 July 2021.  You can find out more from Minister Michael Wood here

You can read BusinessNZ’s completed submission on the Ministry for the Environment’s consultation on the phasing out of fossil fuels in process heat here.

We were very proud recently when David Browne, our Dunedin-based Senior Solicitor and employment law expert, won a prestigious national award from the In-house Lawyers Association of NZ (ILANZ), which is part of the NZ Law Society.  You can read more in the ODT here

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please do let me know.

Ngā mihi nui \ with kind regards,
