The practical working knowledge for those in a supervisory role, as to the obligations placed upon them by various pieces of New Zealand legislation when first hiring the new employee, and then managing the performance and behaviour of team members.

• What do I need to know about agreements?
• What are the grounds for a personal grievance?
• How do the Privacy Act and Human Rights Act impact when I hire people?
• How do I prepare a Job Description and Personal profile
• What is an application form?
• How do the Holidays Act 2003 and other wages legislation affect how I manage people?
• What are my responsibilities under the Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992?
Managing the new employee:
• What does managing performance and behaviour really mean?
• How would I counsel a staff member?
• When would I be thinking of issuing a reprimand?
• Why are House Rules so important?
• What is formal discipline?
• How can I be procedurally fair in my dealings with staff?
