Employers' Association are proud sponsors of The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) in Southland and the Lakes District.
YES is an experiential business programme developed by the Young Enterprise Trust. Senior secondary school students (Year 12 and 13) form business companies and follow a business process, supported by teachers, a business mentor and the regional co-ordinator.
The programme gives students an opportunity to develop their passion into a possible career choice. They set up their own company, create real products/services, earn real money, pay tax and hopefully keep profits - it's not just an academic course, but also a relevant and exciting journey.
More than 2,700 students from around the country decided to have a go at being a young entrepreneur in 2014, creating more than 600 YES companies. In the Southland - Lakes District region, around 145 students take part in the programme each year. These students represent James Hargest College, Southland Girls’ High School, Southland Boys’ High School, Verdon College, Westmount Education, Wakitupu High School (Queenstown), Aparima College (Riverton) and Mt Aspiring College (Wanaka).
As you are aware, setting up a business is challenging and it requires a lot of hard work. The YES students do this while juggling all of their other school work, extra-curricular activities, and family and community commitments.
YES is an incredible learning experience for students and helps foster a positive and innovative business community for the future.
