The Employers' Association has a key role in supporting it's member organisations in growing and developing their businesses. This is achieved through services including

     Employment Law specialists  

We provide access to one of the largest specialist team of in-house employment lawyers and advisors in the South Island, offering an employment advice service tailored for you, the employer.

The Employers' Association provides a fast and cost effective resolution to all types of workplace issues.

Our employment team members are based in Dunedin, Invercargill and Central Otago and  provide expert advice either over the phone or face-to-face: 

• Assistance, drafting and reviews of Employment Agreements

• Help with recruitment, restructuring, employment agreements, staff development and performance appraisal

• Assistance with performance management and disciplinary issues

• Helping ensure your contractors will not be classed as employees

• Advice in relation to any employment-related issues including holidays, payroll, KiwiSaver and on-going absences

• Experienced specialist representation at Mediation, the Employment Relations Authority and Employment Court; ACC reviews and appeal;s Health and Safety prosecutions, and at Human Rights and Privacy Tribunal Hearings

• Assisting in dealing with employee absences and medical incapacity / ACC issues

• Bullying and sexual harassment

• How to handle suspected dishonesty or theft     

• Assistance with bargaining and negotiating with employees and unions

• What to pay your staff to stay competitive

• What to do if a union requests access to your workplace or wants to negotiate a Collective Agreement

• Free annual evaluation of your employment agreements (please note, any changes and amendments will be charged at professional service rates)

• One-one-one coaching to build your organisations capability.

     Workplace health & safety

The Employers' Association provides a range of advice and support in workplace health and safety. With dedicated Health & Safety consultants working alongside our employment lawyers and advisors, we provide a fully integrated employment service to employers. 

We offer members comprehenisive consultancy services, advice and support:

          • Design of health & safety systems to fit your workplace

• Practical assistance with on-going health & safety issues in your workplace through discussions and attendance at meetings

• Assisting with hazard identification and analysis 

• Development of strategies to deal with health & safety issues, for example, stress, rehabilitation

• Reviewing your health & safety documentation and policies

• Carrying out pre-audits for ACC Workplace Safety Management programmes

• Preparing for Workplace Safety discount schemes

• One-on-one coaching to build your organisations capability

     Training and development

The Employers' Association provides you and your organisation with an extensive range of quality professional development training programmes, courses, workshops and qualifications across our region.

We also manage and deliver training programmes on behalf of the New Zealand Institute of Management (NZIM) and ExportNZ in Otago and Southland.  

We are registered to accept New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) Capability Development Vouchers. Over 100 Employer' Association, NZIM Learning & Development, ExportNZ and She's Motivated programmes are registered, and are eligible for voucher redemption.

Our programmes are available as public or in-house programmes. We also offer customised in-company training solutions to meet your unique training needs.

     Conferences, events and networking

As an Employers' member, your business will be plugged into our conference and networking events. Events are designed to inform and support you, while at the same time building your contact base amongst like-minded business people.

A new initiative is our lunch box series which has been specifically designed for small to medium businesses who may have difficulty finding time for training. These one-and-half hour sessions will help businesses keep up-to-date with important employment law, health and safety and business advice.

     Advocacy

When you join Employers' you also become a member of BusinessNZ, New Zealand's largest lobby group for employers, business, manufacturers and exporters.

Through Employers' and Business NZ you have a team of experts who will ensure your voice and the voice of New Zealand business is always heard. We are your voice in local government, in regional government, and in national government.

The Advocacy division delivers submissions and comment to Government, as well as statements of opinion to the media on Employers' member's behalf.

ExportNZ | Export New Zealand provides advocacy, training and events for the benefit of exporters, and inspires New Zealand firms to engage in exporting to expand their business horizons and to grow internationally.

At a regional level, events, training and services are provided by the export divisions of BusinessNZ's regional business associations including Otago Southland Employers' Association.

ManufacturingNZ | Manafacturing New Zealand is the voice of New Zealand manufacturers and provides accesss to knowledge, information, contacts, training, support, and services to help you grow your manufacturing business.

BuyNZ | Buy NZ Made opens up opportunities for New Zealand businesses to get together and form valuable partnerships. It helps to generate success for both manufacturers and retailers by providing networking opportunities, links with other manufacturers, introductions to retail partners and trade show assistance.

Employers' Association members have access to a range of information and resources:
